Master of invention Nikola Tesla, possessed of a prodigious memory and deep-seated phobias, has left a vast and intriguing legacy. He was a physicist, mathematician, electrical engineer, writer of verse, and extensively published author. His nearly 300 patents resulted in an astonishing array of household and industrial inventions. Others were little more than wide-eyed dreams, and still more await development today.

Tesla For Beginners reveals the man of genius and idiosyncrasy behind alternating current and wireless technologies who traveled from Serbia by steamship and arrived in the United States in 1884 with four cents in his pocket and a well-lit vision of the future.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Robert I. Sutherland-Cohen, a polymath and long-time Tesla enthusiast, is associate professor (emeritus) of stage management and production manager at Brooklyn College in New York. He has worked as a stage manager for some of America’s most prestigious companies on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater, as well as the New York City Opera. He has written extensively on stage production and is a widely published jazz performance photographer as well. Robert has a B.S. in mathematics from Northeastern University and an M.F.A. in directing from Boston University.
